Over-indulging over Christmas in inevitable, a combination of warm hearty food and using the cold weather as an excuse to sack off that run for the third time this week can leave you with a little extra puppy fat than you’d have liked heading into the new year. However, we’re all in the same boat and the new year has crept upon us… so let’s kick start our diet back into shape! Make these detoxing foods part of your diet to cleanse away all your festive sins.

1 Artichokes

Artichokes contain caffeoylquinic acids, which are used to treat liver disorders because they stimulate bile flow. Bile helps the body to digest fats, and efficient bile flow clears the system of potentially inflammatory substances contained in fatty foods, which we all no doubt over-consumed during the Christmas period… oops!

2 Avocados 

Packed with monosaturated fatty acids, avocado’s are not only great for the heart but also the perfect tool for liver pathway cleansing because of its high levels of glutathione. 

3 Beetroot

Packed full of anti-inflammatory properties, beetroot promotes cell structure, repair and regeneration, especially in the liver—the body's primary detox centre.

4 Fennel

Fennel contains tons of vitamins and anti-inflammatory chemicals to kickstart your detox. It will also provide you with a boost of Vitamin C, which has antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Fennel is also high in fibre but low in calories—an ideal cleanse food.

5 Garlic

Garlic stimulates the liver into producing detoxification enzymes that filter toxic residues from the digestive system. A must-have on your shopping list this January!

6 Collard Greens

A staple vegetable of Southern cuisine, collard greens have an incredible ability to cleanse your system of excess cholesterol, especially when steamed.
